Francesca at home in her Colorado wildlife garden
FROM THE ARTIST'S DESK:

La Dolce Viva

La Dolce Viva, the sweet life appears as we transition into our Tuscana home and the generosity of the Cortonnese people lifts our spirits during this time. Antonia's adjusting well to her "Italian only" speaking school. I prepare for mia mostra/exhibition with international award-winning photographer Margaret A. Leone. Working at Galleria Nocchia, I share my ART and passion for Italian life with people from Africa, Argentina, Bahamas, Brazil, England, Finland, Denmark, Holland, Ireland, New Zealand, Netherlands, Scotland, Switzerland, and USA.

Ciao tutti,
Francesca

AAL Awards Francesca the '2006 Fellowship Award'
The Arts Alliance of Littleton chose Francesca as one of their four winners for the annual "Fellowship Award," given to artists for an individual creative endeavor to be exhibited October 2006. "Francesca's The Doors of Passage-Cortona Italy won; the heartwarming series is to be created in Italy this year as a tribute to her heritage. Her approach to art is deliberate, as she conquers her life as an artist," wrote Deb Place, President of the AAL

'I knew I had to have it,' thought Judy Rose
The Abbey of Monte Cassino, a watercolor collage, is now in the private collection of Larry and Judy Rose. "I first saw this work on Francesca Owens' web site," says Mrs. Rose, "and I knew I had to have it. I called her immediately and made the appointment to meet her at her studio that evening. It's such a compelling piece. My husband was delighted when I brought it home. He was fascinated by the historical aspects of the painting."

The Abbey of Monte Cassino is the artist's tribute to her mother and her Italian heritage. The work depicts Owens' mother in her first communion gown on a pedestal, superimposed over the pastoral valley from which her family emigrated. The abbey was the target of a tragic bombing incident during World War II.

Citta' di Cortona's Giostra Dell' Archidado

Francesca and Nia as
family of nobility.

Five royal families and their courts represented their 1/5 section of Cortona's city during this 10 day celebration. Each section competes in archery competitions, flag throwing demonstrations, falconry exhibitions, and the re-enactment of Francesco Casli and Antonia Salimbeni's famous 1937 wedding. The city honors its patron Saint Margarita with a live play involving more than 250 of Cortona's residents parading through its streets in full medieval costumes. Francesca was honored this year by being invited to be part of the Quintiere Peccioberardi's royal court, the Court of the Sun.
